The Coalition for Vaccination released a statement calling for European countries to make influenza and COVID-19 vaccination easily available to high risk groups such as those with comorbidities, pregnant women, immunocompromised populations and the elderly. The Coalition also advises that healthcare workers should have up-to-date vaccinations and receive any necessary booster doses due to the risk of transmission to potentially vulnerable patients.
This call comes at a time when cases of vaccine-preventable infectious diseases such as COVID-19, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) and seasonal flu are expected to rise and place additional pressures on already overburdened healthcare services. The Coalition for Vaccination reinstates the safety, quality and effectiveness of these life-saving vaccines due to the rigorous scientific and quality checks carried out by the European Medicines Agency (EMA).
